unless you already have an LSD, I really wouldn't advise one for true 4x4'ing... it won't net you anything offroad wise. youtube LSD to see what it does (or really doesn't) do for you when 1 tire loses traction... the other will just spin.

if you want to drive your rig daily, AND be able to pull into an offroad park, or mud pit, an air (or selectable) locker is your best bet. goes from normal everyday driving, to locked and loaded at the press of a button, or pull of a lever, etc.
cost wise the locker is only 2/3 of the total cost, still need to have the gears set up by someone who knows how to do that. if you're daily driving the rig, ensure they warranty their work, if it's not daily driven, you don't need selectable, just grab a lunch box and install it one afternoon with a friend.

Thank you for the helpful advise. I am leaning towards an ARB air locker.

Don't let them convince you that if you put a "full time" locker in your DD you can't drive it on the road or it will eat tires in a week and burst into flames. I read up on it a lot. When I was going put mine in and was "convinced" Arb was the only way to go. But 1k for a locker is a little much. So I dropped in an aussie for 300$. After driving it for a while I came to this conclusion. #1 those people saying the negatives about it probably haven't driven a DD with a full time locker ever or drive like a 16 year old trying to impress the girls. Save the 700$ for something else.

How well does the ford factory electronic locker compare to the air lockers?

How long have you had your aussie locker? how many miles? and did you install it yourself?

by no means do I meant selectable is the only way.
I DD'd an Aussie for years, and I know it didn't eat tires, nor did it affect my driving, other then in the winter, it will change things then.

he "wants" easy ON/OFF... but at the same time wants it to be cheaper. He can only have one, so he has to choose which is more important, cheap or selectable??

Aussie install is pretty simple, depends slightly on the dif, but it can take as little as a 1/2 hour, or quite a bit longer if you need a spreader and it needs some "persuading"

ARB, well add in a couple hundred $$ for someone to install.

If it were me, and I was set on getting married at 18. Save your money...you're gonna need it. LOL

All jokes aside, as for the locker? I'd go ARB. Nothing like being able to switch it when I want. Never had a locker in a P/U truck. I know the suck ball hair in a Jeep when trying to drive them on pavement.
