These were bad about the throttle position actuator assembly.. It's the electronic piece on the throttlebody that controls the throttle and idle about 400 bucks but try cleaning the throttlebody first and always check small stuff like fuel filter and routine Maintnance

I had a 2004 f150 4x4 with the same problem including dieing when turning the wheels full lock left or right while idling pulling into the drive way or parking slots. The problem was a bad TPS sensor (throttle position sensor). A new one was less than $35.00 and took less than 10 minutes to replace. 2 screws held it on and a quick disconnect elec plug. Problem solved. Very common problem with the 04 TPS.

Believe it or not I have come across cases where when the backup lights come on the car quits (not a truck, but likely same issue). I worked on one two weeks ago that had been in multiple shops with no solution. Turns out it was a disconnected ground wire in the trunk. If I were you I would make sure all of the tail lights, 3rd brake light and backup lights are working properly before I got to deep into this issue. Takes ten minutes to check out the lights and may save you hundreds in unnecessary pieces/parts. Its worth a try. Good luck

[QUOTE=laterongc;6832191]curious to Learn more. How did you diagnose these symptoms to be the TPS? Any idea why/how the turning of wheels made it fail? How long did you have truck after tps replacement and did this prove to be long term remedy? Thanks for any additional info you might be willing to share.

The truck dyeing would happen when a slow careful turn was needed such as a crowded parking lot or driveway. Turning the wheels to full lock and proceeding to complete the turn at idle would drag the rpms down and it would die. If I kept my foot on the brake and gave it a little more gas i could keep it from dyeing. It would also die at idle at stop lights and in reverse backing up at idle. The replacement TPS fixed the problem and I drove it for another 5 years without another problem. I found the symptoms and fix for the problem on this forum. My neighbors 04 started doing the same thing and we replaced his TPS and it fixed his too.
