Unhappy Transmission slippage

My 2005, V8, 4.6L has slippage in the transmission. I drove it in the floods in Houston and when I went to get the fluid flushed and changed out today they said I had water in there and it was causing rust and slippage. They say I need new transmission, but I'm wondering if I keep driving it for a while will it cause other problems that will cost more money?

Drive it till it dies. You need a new transmission. Not gonna cost any more money if you get it rebuilt now or after you drive it till it dies.

If you continue to drive, it may totally go out at the wrong time.

Yeah, you're right. I just wanted to try to milk it a little more before I plop $4k on a new transmission. It's got 140k miles on it but it runs great. Going through that water is what did it, but that was six months ago and about 8k miles

Might not have had any problems if you'd of changed the fluid out right away, but that's water under the bridge. Get a case of fluid, if tranny pan doesn't have a drain get one that does. Change that fluid till the strawberry milkshake fluid is gone. You never know what will happen but new fluid just might give it some life.

I think you are on the right track. Since you have to replace the transmission anyways and it has 140K miles on it, I'd go to quick lube place and have them flush it out and put in new fluid. You'd probably be able to get much more mileage out of it....maybe even until you are ready to buy something different. Worst case scenario is that you still have to replace the tranny...not much of a downside when compared to possibly saving $4K.

I'm with everyone else. Flush the transmission and put some good fluid in there. You may be surprised and the transmission could hold up for a while.

Default Tranny may be salvageable

A guy from a transmission place told me today that if it is still in drive able condition that he's sure they can fix it. He said they can even fix them sometimes when they are undriveable.
I'll let you know how it works out.
Thanks for all the replies
