KAM will only last about 2 minutes without KAPWR - it doesn't take 15.

Paranoia strikes deep, right? It's not peeking through the curtains. The PCM doesn't learn your secrets - it adapts the transmission functions in the same way that it adapts the engine functions: as sensors & actuators age, the PCM stores some highly-technical information about what feedback it got for a given input & output pattern. Like how the Oxygen sensors' response changed when the injectors' were opened slightly longer at a particular engine temperature at a particular throttle position with a particular airflow; or how the engine RPM reacted relative to the OSS and ABS sensor speeds, after the transmission was shifted in a particular way at a particular line pressure... Not what color underwear you have on, or what medications you're taking. Then based on what it has learned, it adjusts its data tables so that the NEXT time it encounters those precise same parameters, it can get a slightly-better response time FOR YOU. That's why Ford describes it as learning "your driving style". But it doesn't matter who's driving - if anyone drives that way, they'll get the improved response, too. But if someone starts driving very-differently from you, it will learn how to improve itself for that style. It's a continuous process, forever. And Ford EECs/PCMs have been doing it since the mid-80s.

What exactly is the computer learning? Once it has "learned" your driving style what exactly does it do? Any help much appreciated.
In simple terms its shift strategy adapts to your driving style. For instance, if you drive conservatively, it will upshift sooner and tend to stay in higher gears longer. If you drive more aggressively it will hold gears longer and shift higher in the rev range and will downshift with less throttle input than it would for the conservative driver.
