Default Transmission Fluid and Rack and Pinion 2010 F-150

Hi there,

I just had my rack and pinion re-built. I re-installed and it and filled it with the recommended Mercon V fluid. I bled the system and drove it around and all was fine.. Until I had my alignment done.. The tech told me my bellow was full of fluid. I took it home and checked the fluid level at the reservoir and it is 100% full. My question is.. Are the rack and pinion and transmission connected on a 2010 F-150 2wd. Could the fluid be coming from the transmission through the rack seals and this is why my reservoir is still full? I'm going to drain the fluid from the bellow and check all fluids. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No... the two systems are not connected in any way. It would be my guess that whoever rebuilt the rack either damaged the seals or possibly did not install them in the first place. As you filled the system with fluid, it simply went right past the seals and filled the bellows.

Define bellows full. if the bellows were full would have blown out when cycled if just a small amount of oil it would indicate a slow leak. Either way take back to the re-builder for examination.
