Default Towing mpgs

My 18 5.0 towed my 7k lbs camper 300 miles with my brother in-law following in his 18 2.7 towing his 19ft open bow four winns and I was surprised to see my 18 5 0 get 1.2 mpg better with a much heavier load

I think pretty much everyone on here knows when you're in the boost on the turbo'd engines you're going to get bad fuel economy.

Plus, if the boat didn't have a cover on it that's going to significantly increase air drag. I've heard of a good cover making as much as a 2-4 mpg difference.

i guess more information would be needed. Ok your 18 with 5.0 and 7k trailer got better fuel mileage. How heavy was the boat? How is each rig geared? Are both 2or 4 wheel drives. How fast were you both traveling? Flat land or hills?
Im pretty happy with my 18 crewcab 4x4 3.5 3.55 gear max tow. My older 2011 with 5.0 averaged somewhere between 7.5/9.5 mpg pulling my 7k+ trailer at speeds between 65-70 mph in hilly terrain in western Wa. My 3.5 is typically seeing 9.8 mpg on the same routes. That said if I slow to say 60-65 mph I see an additional 1+ MPG.

Sounds odd, are you sure the speeds were the same? if he was doing 75-80 with the boat and you maintained 65 then it makes sense.
