Default Towing A Jeep

I'm towing my neighbors Jeep CJ7 on Friday and I have a few questions. He's renting a vehicle dolly, so my first question is whether or not the vehicle in question will be alright if we just remove the driveshaft to the rear axle. I'm assuming so at the moment but it's always good to check.

Second, I'm wondering how well my 2001 4.6L 5spd will be able to handle the journey. Will the clutch be up for it? The trip is about 30 miles. The Jeep, from what I can find is about 3400 pounds stock.

Thank you, any and all answers are appreciated.

Pulling the driveshaft will be fine, just drive the jeep on the dolly first. Let a friend of mine learn that the hard way once.

Ever pulled something heavy with a manual before? If you know how to use a clutch properly you should be fine, just drive a little slower if your unsure. I've flat towed a YJ(3500lbs Ish) with a stock Ford Festiva once.

i don't think you will even need to remove the drive shaft off of the jeep just put it in neutral it should do fine and as far as towing it 30 miles i don't think you will have any issues just stopping might be challenging take it slow and keep an eye out for dumb *** drivers post pictures too!

Agree dull the drive shaft, but only off the diff tie it up to keep the fluid in the t case. Your truck will do just fine I have pulled upwards of 8k with my 03 4.6 5 spd just take it easy and keep out of OD

Put the Jeeps T-Case in Neutral. If it doesn't have this ability then remove the driveshaft.

If it's only 30 miles you can definitely handle it. I wouldn't begin to worry about that until I was making out on a several hour journey.

Yup... My Boss tows his Jeep behind his motor home and all he does is throw the T-Case in nuetral. No problems and he has traveled all over the country.

Might as well give the Chrysler/Jeep dealer a call and see what they say for peace of mind.
