Towing boats with or without 4WD?

Aggghhhh the salt water damage!!!! I am willing to bet alcohol played a part in the third video. And, a 4wd wouldn't help him much since his trailer found the edge of the concrete and got hooked (Happened to a buddy of mine his 4wd did nothing till we hooked his trailer with an ancher and pulled up on it - ramp was too short and tide to lower for his 24' bay stealth). The 2nd video, I would like to know why he sank his truck for a jet ski? WTF.
Scuba Steve - if you plan on getting a bigger boat, just ask people with a boat in your size range at the launches that you frequent or will frequent. But if you haven't needed it in Florida for 10 years I think you will be fine. I haven't needed one either, just put some AT tires on my trucks and they were great.

This is what 4wd can do.

Here are some people that wished they had FWD.

And so on.

This is what scares me about not having 4WD, but I think I would be good on most ramps here without it.

If your trailer axle and tires go off the end of the ramp don't ****** it to hard. You might end up dragging the trailer out without an axle. Simply use two 2x6s or a set of those aluminum folding ramps off of the end of the boat ramp. simple easy fix. Comes out easy.

I am going to be buying an F-150 in the summer. I am definitely wanting the locking rear differential, but has anyone had trouble pulling boats out of the water without 4WD?
My current truck is a 2WD Dakota and I pull a 21' center console out with no problem, but if I were to get a bigger boat down the road I want to be able to get it out of the water. I hate to get 4WD for the chance that I get a larger boat 3-4 yrs from now. I have never needed 4WD in the 10 years that I have owned my current truck. I really don't want to spend the extra money and take the MPG hit if I don't need to.

For all the money it takes to own a boat, just buy the 4wd and never worry about it. Piece of mind is worth something.
