Got into quite the wreck tonight driving my boyfriend's truck, who I might add, left it to me while he is in bootcamp for the Marines. Its a '96. A lot of work and money put into this bad boy. Any idea of if its fixable, also a cost estimate? Thank you.
Most things are fixable to a point. Make sure you get it to a reputable shop and have them look it over. Not sure on the insurance issue, but they might total it. Claims people will probably total it from what i can tell from the pictures, but don't quote me on it. Body panels can be bought from a used truck in good condition. You could swap everything over to a new frame if it's screwed. All this is speculation until you get it inspected by a shop though. Good luck
I suppose he'll have more bargaining power if the accident was caused by another driver--especially one with insurance; but if it was your fault, he'll be at the mercy of the insurance company. And, you'll find out just how strong your relationship really is.
From an insurance perspective I'm sure its totalled, it is afterall a 1996, 20 year old truck. It's probably valued by the insurance at a 2-3k at most probably and I'm sure the $ to repair that with new parts, which is what the insurance will quote will be over that. If you are asking if its fixable or not, it appears to be mostly cosmetic and should be fixable.
If the frame isn't bent, it's fixable for not a whole lot of money if you get junk yard parts. so if they total it, just buy it back and fix it.
If the frame is bent, they will total it. no questions about it. Now, depending how bent it is you could buy it back have have a shop straighten the frame and do the rest yourself. (I have done this before.) But the question is, will it be worth the money and time?
Cost estimate from a picture? Not remotely possible. Shop will determine all parts that need to be replaced, rebuilt, straightened, ... But insurance will total it, no question given it's value and age.
