Top Off, Round Up, or simply Hang Up... When Fueling What Do You Do?
The question is simply when the fuel nozzle clicks off do you top off your tank, round up to the next dollar or simply hang up the fuel nozzle and be done?

On my 2018 it took a while to learn to take hose out of filler. Try to round up 8 to 10 cents I get gas down side of truck. Maybe it is the pump. 03 wasn't that way.

Click and done, hang up the nozzle. Reason being is the tank needs a little space in it for the tank pressure sensor, if you top off or round up more you take a chance drowning that sensor which can trigger a check engine light.

For "normal" driving, I'll generally just round up to the next $$$. (even though it's always paid via card...usually at Costco)

Personally I round up to the next dollar as it is an old habit. Easier to track in the charge history anyways.

Once the nozzle clicks off, that's it. Overfilling can be very costly. Fuel needs room to expand, and overfilling, even by only 2/10ths of a gallon, it can expand enough to be drawn into the vapor canister. That canister is designed to handle vapor(fumes) not raw gasoline. That gasoline can destroy the element in the canister which then would need to be replaced. Is taking that costly risk really worth putting in that extra few cents that does not give back any kind of benefit really worth it.

I let it click off, pull the nozzle out a little, let it settle, then pump again until nozzle clicks off. I don't try to round up or anything, I just use my debit card, rarely carry much cash.

According to Scanguage, and may other Fueling apps, they all specify to stop at the first click. It's the only way to get consistency when filling up for checking MPG. As mentioned by others, you need room for vapor too.
