Tires. What would you do?
Howdy. New to this forum. 2013 truck has 36,000 miles on it. Bought it used 19 months ago. Cooper 265/60 r18 tires still have pretty good tread. My question is: Would you keep these tires for a 4,000 mile trip of mostly interstate highway driving in September, or would you be afraid they're too old to take the heat? I'm thinking they could be 5 years old now, but I'm not sure when they might have been installed. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Engineers Lead the Way!
I just replaced the tires on my 2013 F150, I bought it with 30,000 miles on it and a set of BFG Trail Terrains. They were starting to crack and I put 26,000 miles on them in the past year. I have no clue if there are original with all 56,000 miles on them or not. After hydro-planing last night, I decided to get rid of them today.
In your case, I would use them for the trip unless you have a lot of dry-rot/cracking around the wheels. I've run much older tires than that on long trips, but its a case by case situation.

Thanks for the huge help, ZacSquatch and Rnlcomp. I now know my tires are less than three years old. They have no cracks in 'em, so I think we're good to hitch up the wagon and oxen and head for gold! You guys are great.

Around 6-7 years is the recommended life of tires regardless of miles. But that can vary a lot. Sunlight is what kills the rubber. A car parked in a garage isn't exposed to as much light and someone from Montana won't get the sunlight someone in Arizona might get. Under the right conditions it could be safe to keep tires 10 years. Others may well be gone after 3-4.

Go and enjoy your trip.
Do check on the condition of the tires at every fill up, and consider carrying a second spare :-)
Be sure the pressure is correct for the load you're carrying and the temperature of the road you'll be driving on.
(Don't forget to check the condition of the main spare.. so many of us have no idea what condition it's in until we need it....and it may be too late at that point!)

Take it to a reputable tire shop and get a professional opinion instead of asking random people on the internet. At least post some pics of the tires is you're gonna ask a bunch of strangers on a forum.
