Tires and 4x4
Since the forums will not let me post in the tire section I am hoping to get an answer here..
I may be "downsized" at years end so I money is tight.
My question is, I have 2 tires with half tread. I need to buy 2 tires to replace some alignment damage on the other two. If I use the two good ones and buy 2 new ones and rarely use the 4x4, would this still cause any stress or damage to the 4 wheel drive system?
Thanks

Buy the same brand and size tire, don't lock in 4wd on pavement, and you should be fine. Tire diameter difference due to partial wear is insignificant so long as you lock in offroad.

Don't understand why the 4WD system is in play here ??...sounds like an Alignment issue.

He knows its an alignment issue. He's just worried that having new tires on the rear and half worn ones on the front will cause the 4wd system to bind up due to the difference in tire size

Had some bad front end parts and didn't catch the tire wear in time.
I know on my AWD system the tires got to match evenly. Was just wondering if
the same was true while the 4WD was engaged.
