That’s just it - conditions vary so much from area to area and how the roads are treated - or not.

around here they plow frequently and put down a 50/50 mix of salt/sand. Just enough salt to start melting then refrezes. Also it doesn’t get really cold anymore - 30* snow pack is a heck of a lot more slippery than 10* snow pack. Add to that constant hills and bends......

I’ve survived for many years with various AT tires. But then I started playing with VW TDIs running dedicated winter tires. Amazing confidence on snow pack and ice. Once the AT tires on my truck wore out I went with a dedicated set of winters.

then there are the township dirt roads. You can’t put salt on dirt. So they do the best they can with plowing and pure anti skid. Those roads will be solid ice for at least 3 months of our 5 months of winter. Very steep hills with steep drop offs and crowned the wrong way. That’s when a set of 4 tire chains go on.

I didn’t know the 4S had the 3PMFS - I thought it was only the AT/W was.

I like the tread pattern of the 4S - looks tight enough to not be noisy. My goal is to find the quietest tire with the 3PMFS. I am a big Cooper fan so it looks like I am getting it narrowed down.
