I'm looking to purchase new tires for my 2022, Ecoboost, Supercab. The stock Wranglers are not a great fit for my usage. I tow a 6000lb trailer around 10,000 miles per year, frequently in the snow so being snow rated is important. That said, I also take mid winter swings through the south so a snow specific tire would take a beating. No real off-roading but am occasionally on the lengthy, rutted, dirt road. Probably would do fine with All Season tires. Being my daily driver, I do care about MPG.
Have had BFG K02s on a truck before and really liked them. Ride was a bit stiff but not too noisy. The local shop suggested going K02s again but ordering 275/70/R18s instead of the 275/65/R18s that were stock. No idea why they think I should go with the taller tire. Could go that way but feel the extra weight, aggressive AT tread and E rating (10 ply) weight is overkill and costing me at the pump.
Any suggestions?
If you tow a heavy trailer, the higher load rating of the stiffer carcass is what keeps it & the truck upright & going forward. If ride quality & MPG are your primary concerns, stop towing, & stick with a factory-type tire. But for what you said you do, you need the heavier tire. I highly recommend made-in-USA Cooper Discoverer AT3s. I own 30 of them right now.
I have no problem towing with my Michelin Defenders. I don’t tow more than 4500# and they get great MPG’s when not towing and ride nice.
Tried the Cooper Discoverers in 2014 on my old 2008. Hated them. They didn’t do good in the snow. The previous Firestone Destination AT I had were better and the General ATX I switched to also beat them.
Id look into Michelin Defender or LTX AT if you want more of an All terrain tire. You could go LT if needed for extra sidewall support.
Can’t beat getting Michelins at Costco with lifetime free rotations and free replacement if damaged.
I have Michelin Defenders on my wife's Hyundai, good tire, better than stock, and pretty happy with them. On my pickup, I have Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires, also very happy with them, though I haven't towed anything of decent substance yet with this truck/tire combo. I was looking at putting the Defender LTX tires on my pickup but ended up going with the Falken tires.
I have found KO2’s pretty mediocre in the snow. I have a set in my F150 and Lexus GX. I had 4 sets of Duratracs and they were better for snow but the KO2 is a better all around tire imo.
