There is no way I'd replace just 2 tires on a 4X4 unless I never planned to operate in 4X4. I really don't like to do it on a 4X2 A set of tires with 40,000 or more miles on them is effectively 1 size smaller than when you bought them. Not to mention that there is enough difference between different manufacturers of the same size tires.

If you engage 4X4 it is like having 3.55 gears on the axle with new tires and 3.73 gears on the axle with the old tires.

My son is an electrician and commutes daily to construction sites. A couple of years ago the commute was exactly 100 miles round trip. He came to me one day and asked why all of a sudden the commute was now 95 miles instead of the 100 it had been for the last 6 months. My answer, "You bought new tires, even though they are the same size the new ones are 5% larger in diameter". This was on a Nissan Sentra. The difference is even more dramatic on an aggressive 33" off road tire.

I wouldn't pull my camper at 70 mph with those tires but I've seen hay wagons carrying 1,000s of lbs. with tires that look a lot worse.

Search Craigslist for a pair of lightly used tires. Just check the age.

Where are you located? I'm assuming BC because of the 120km/h speed limits.
I'm sure you'd be able to find a decent set of replacements at a good price on Kijiji.
Like the others said you can easily replace just the one or 2. Not all 4. If it's the stock tires you should be able to find a decent set on Kijiji.
There's a Facebook page in Alberta for rims and tires under $1000. You may want to check that out too.

I'd go back to the shop that performed the change and ask them to put my winter tires on free of charge since they were the ones that put unsafe tires on your rims to begin with.

Thanks again everyone, I wont be able to reply to all.
The build date on my tire is 3708. So if I got it right, 37th week of 2008. These tires are too old. So to come clean here, I already picked up these tires on Kijiji, they were cheap enough so its not a huge loss but im not cool with throwing away a few hundred bucks so im gonna run them for a bit and then probably throw them on my parts/project truck.
Thanks for the Facebook Buy/Sell tip I am in Alberta but from BC. Atleast next time I know how to check the build dates for when I am buying used tires.

I dont want to get just 2 tires because I would not want to use my 4x4 ever on dry ground or even ice, basically only if I was on slick mud. I know its not good to have different sized tires, that article put it into perspective nicely.

Heres my copy paste from the article one of the poster shared:
"The same tire worn to 8/32-inch of remaining tread depth is calculated to be 1/8" shorter with a diameter of 24.84", have a circumference of 78.04" and will roll 839 times per mile. While the difference of 1/8" in overall diameter doesn't seem excessive, the resulting 4 revolutions per mile difference can place a continuous strain on the tires and vehicle's driveline."

I will leave the shop out of this. I brought them the tires and they put them on no questions asked. I dont want to ruin that for guys using them for offroad only or whatever.

A reputable shop would at least inform the customer of the tire condition, there are a lot of people, like yourself, who don't know. And you CAN purchase 2 tires instead of 4, but if all 4 of yours are like that, that won't help much.

It's not smart to drive around on unsafe tires, you are endangering yourself and most importantly others.
