Default Tips on getting a great deal?

Well, I am in the market for a new F-150 Lariat 4x4 Supercrew with the 3.5L ecoboost. There are several colors I like. I am currently driving a 1998 Honda Accord and not in a hurry. My plan is to wait until the 2018s come out or about to come out and start seriously shopping. I live in Augusta, GA and I am willing to drive out of town to get a great deal. Does anyone have any tips on getting the best deal possible? Does Ford offer any awesome manufacturer rebates during a certain time of the year? Are there certain dealers in GA, SC, or NC that consistently have the best deals? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Not going to find many rebates on the 18's when they come out. New models usually take a while before you see them.

This should keep you busy....

I want a 2017 so I am hoping they start offering great incentives on them when the 2018s come out.

Thank you very much for that thread link! That was very helpful.

If it follows what I tend to see on the west coast, the heavy incentives have been on the 2.7. Some deals in others but they are much easier to find with that.

See what hat happens with incentives. There will certainly be some as all mfg compete with new model year units. Buy in the last couple days of the month or even better, the quarter. If they are short of goals there will be even better deals to be found.

Be flexible on options and colors. If you get a great deal you might have to grab it.

+1 ^^^^^^

Everything MH150 said and maybe a few more.

There are fast-track and slow-track (usually family owned) dealers. Fast tracks will push you hard. Slow tracks will be more patient with you.

The salesman is there for his benefit - NOT yours. Don't believe anything unless you get it in writing and have read it several times.

Don't buy on impulse. The first thing a salesman will want to know is if you have a trade-in and what it will take to get you rolling now. Since you're not in a hurry there's no need to make a move until you are comfortable.

Don't fall for the deposit trick to hold the vehicle. This is sometimes presented as a way to get you back in but it is not a legally binding agreement to hold the vehicle.

As MH150 said, wait until the end of the month. If you've shown strong interest in a particular truck the odds are very good that you will get a call a day or two before the month ends. Somewhere there's a manager or sales person banking on a bonus if they sell a few more units. I've done this several times and it works.

When I purchased my truck I started looking around the 20th of the month. Got a call on the last day offering another $500 for my trade in. That's money I would have lost if I had jumped earlier.

Good luck!

Post pics when you get what you want.

Dont be in a hurry, setup a new (fake) email account(so it can be deleted when your done) internet shop for what you want in whatever states you want.Give a bogus phone # ,but do give the correct fake email(they will get hold of you asking for phone, dont give it).Get the best internet price . Look for dealers that have the highest sales.. offer 25% off msrp, some get mad(oh well)some deal.Out of the dozens of inquires in 6-7-8 states I traveled to 2 different dealers. On the way to those dealers I also stopped at places on the way.Always be nice BUT FIRM. Play 1 dealer against another(hes got this and offered it for this)Do not talk about trade in,or financing until you get a price you like. Before yo go get rates and pre approved loan from your bank or Credit company.Walk out if things dont go your way.I start with offering 25% off MSRP end up with 22% off msrp.(higher discounts for higher MSRPs) The dealers love RAPEING people on the extended warranty Deal with FLOOD insurance and another(i forget the name) online place for extended warranty. work the rebates,go to ford site and request the $750 coupon(that can take a few months)

My tip, when joining a new forum, is to read. There are many, many posts on buying strategies, some very involved, some listing results that are probably partly exaggeration, and some explaining to save your time and use X-Plan. The private cash is also explained.

When they ask... What do you want your payment to be? Walk away and go talk to the next sales guy. I got to my 2nd with the dealership and he never asked a stupid question. Sometimes the sales guy that got you at the front door, gets you from there on out. It sometimes takes the manager to allow a switch. I just ask the manager if he wants to possibly make a sale or not. Don't play the 4 square game.

Get up and walk out if you get pissed or feel like you are getting hosed. Don't sign anything either until you are happy with the purchase agreement. If they say they will do this/that. Make sure they put it on a we owe you sheet.

I've had very good sales guys who I go specifically to if I am shopping. If they are busy, I WILL wait.
