I encountered P2112 yesterday while driving. I was going about 45mph, and the wrench came on the dash, and I had no throttle control. I pulled into a parking lot, and the engine was idling very rough. After a restart, everything seemed okay. I was able to rev the engine fine. I pulled back onto the road, and Mr. Wrench came back again. It did this three times. After the third restart, it ran and drove fine. I put about 20 miles on it, running errands and going to Ford to pick up a new throttle body. The truck is a 2013 F150 FX4 Eco with 119k on it. I have owned it for 6 years, and this is the first time I have had this issue; I guess I am lucky.
After replacing the throttle body, I opened up the bad unit and found that the gears were pretty badly worn—probably normal wear. The grease was pretty dry, which probably didn't help things.
Some wear on the half-moon gear. You can really see the worn area on this gear.
I was surprised that the throttle body wasn't super dirty. I expected much worse.
I wonder if you could in a pinch rotate the pinion gear (assume that's correct) a bit so it engages with the half-moon gear (rack?) at a different spot and reinstall.
Thought I would share what I found. Hope it helps someone.
Wow! I wonder if it's worth taking that assembly apart maybe every year or so and making sure it has good grease? Also what kind of grease do you think it was?
