Default Thoughts on extendid warranty

Hi everyone I have a 2000 5.4 v8 2x4 F-150 and over the past 3yrs I've replaced the ball joints upper and lower, new battery, intake manifold, and recently just cashed out $400+ for new fuel filter, lines and 3 coils!!! I saw a commercial for extendid warranty's for cars with 100,000 miles and I'm at 142,xxx! The truck drives great but you never know with the high miles I have on it! So what do you guys & gals think of those extendid warranty companies or are they some type of scam??? Also if anyone has one please chime in and tell your good/bad experiences!!!

ExtendEd (with an 'e') warranties on high mileage vehicles typically cost an extraordinary amount of money. Go ahead and get a quote and you'll laugh your *** off at how ludicrous it is. I'll take a ballpark guess and say it will cost you $3500 for 2 years/24,000 miles of coverage.

Thanks for the spelling correction! I am NOT smarter then a 5th grader LOL!!!! I did get a quote! $495 down and $108 a month for 18mo! It covers engine, trans, axel, a/c, heat, cooling system, electrical system, and transfer case! Now I would have to actually look at the "fine print" of the policy to see WHAT it covers in those componets! Feel me!!! What do you think??? Honestly!!!

You're going to pay more than half the market value of the truck in warranty payments. Doesn't make a damned bit of sense.

It's a scam. You'll pay all this money only to have them refuse the claim due to certain wording in the fine print.

after market extended warranties are a scam, most dealerships won't even honor them cause of all the problems with them. The only extended warranty worthwhile is the one offered by the manufacturer.

My personal experience with aftermarket warranties can be summed up by one simple statement. Caveat emptor.

Had one on a 1998 Mercury Sable. The ONLY shop which would honor the warranty was the dealer who sold it. No one else would touch anything on the car under warranty, as they took forever to pay if they paid at all. Really handy when you're on a 1500 mile road trip.

They're a scam.

scam.... save that money instead. now, if no conditions attached, full reimbursement without previous quote, and the price goes down like $20 month, then, maybe, worth.

IMO Scam... Unless its from Ford... Alot of those extened warranty companies are only up and running for a short period of time. So by the time you need them... They already closed up shop... G/L in finding one thats been around awhile without giving its customers the run around...
But here food for thought.. When I was buying my truck "New". I came in with a warranty from an after market company that was $600 less than what Ford was offering for the same plan... They came down and matched it (Boy was I happy!!).. I don't know if they will do it for an older model. But it can't hurt to ask..

Nick,
