Thank God for this kinda oil leak
Wife called yesterday while I was at work and said "Your truck has an oil leak, it's all over the carport floor". My heart sank and I frantically started searching the forum for possible common problems. Finally I couldn't take it anymore so I told the bossman I had to leave. I get home and find 2 good size puddles of oil (there were 2 cause my wife used it to bring the daughter to the sitter and didn't notice the oil on the floor till she got home). It had lost about 1.5 quarts. Well long story short it ended up being a crack in the oil filter itself that I put on 4000 miles ago but just starting leaking. That's why I say "thank God for this kinda oil leak" cause a simple oil change fixed it. I've posted a very short video of what I found because I could only upload 5MB. If you are curious it was a NAPA oil filter.

That's the mystery, I know I wouldn't have knowingly put a dented filter on my truck. Although I had to use a filter wrench to get the old filter off and used it to put the new filter on but didn't over torque. I'm thinking the wrench may have had a little barb or something on it that caused a pinhole or crease. Then 4000 miles later it finally gave out. Of course that will never be proven. Either way I'm just happy that's all it was.

NEVER EVER use a filter wrench to install an oil filter!!!! Hand tighten only, the constant heat/cool cycles of the engine in normal operation will make the filter tighter over it's life span. Look at the directions on the filter box.
