Our county has seen hundreds of car and truck break-ins this month. 95% of them were unlocked.

I'm sure the model does not matter. MY 2017 XL tailgate locks with keyfob, I did order the 101a package, might be the source. KM

Pretty sure my `14 STX locked with a key only. Not the fob

That second vid is from my local news channel. Its quite the "thing" for thieves to do and take the gates to a rural area of the county, typically populated with double wides for ad hoc chop shop donations.

I installed a Pop Lock on my tailgate it locks and unlocks with the doors. Not only to keep it from being stolen, but to also keep out those who wonder if I have any goodies under the tonneau cover.

The tailgate on my '17 XLT AUTO LOCKS, when I hit the (door) lock button.
Used to use the key on my '07.
A replacement tailgate, painted to match can run you over $1000..lockemup!

2018 XL here. There is an option in the instrument cluster for locks. Now all my doors lock and unlock together along with the tailgate. Nice.

A locking tailgate is not enough. You also need one of the locks that go onto the tailgate hinge.
Thieves are carrying a small 12 volt battery with wires attached, then they just reach under the back of your truck and unplug the connector for the tailgate. Stick the wires from the 12 volt battery into the end of the connector going to your tailgate and then your tailgate unlocks. Open up your tailgate and swing it out a bit, then they carry it away.

Glad I don't live in crappy parts of the country where this is a problem. Someone posted a thread like this a couple years ago. Between that thread and this thread... it's the only time I've ever heard of tailgate theft
