Tailgate Security?

Tailgate Security?
2014 F150 w/backup camera. Have been told twice to keep
the tailgate locked because it is a target for crooks. Always in and out
of the truck bed. Lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock. What a pain.
Any ideas? Thanks

Sure, there are a few options.
I have a stainless steel hose clamp around the right side "hinge". I also have installed a $8 lock actuator inside the tailgate and wired it so that it locks and unlocks with the doors.
Search "power locking tailgate"
BTW, yes tailgates are a item that gets stolen a lot. IIRC tailgates were the #1 stolen item in TX last year. You can't go to Ford and buy a tailgate. It's item that makes up the tailgate is sold separately. A friends uncle had the tailgate on his 2012 F250 KR stolen, cost him $2700 to replace.

I also have hose clamp on the right hand side hinge and for a couple dollars, its just as good as anything out there. I installed mine with a ratcheting box end wrench, so you cant use a screwdriver to remove it, because the "groove" where a screwdriver would go, faces the bed with the tailgate open, and it faces the bumper when its closed.

I installed the Gatekeeper by Jimmy Jammer; it utilizes the T-50 bolt closest to the tailgate hinge and seemed a bit more secure than using a hose clamp, however it's a bit more expensive and makes it much more difficult for those times when you want to remove your tailgate (wasn't an issue for me because I can't remember the last time I removed my tailgate).

Just ordered the master lock, never thought about it until I read this post. $15 dollars will not prevent theft but may slow them down enough to discourage them That is the great thing about this forum, things you never think of that have inexpensive solutions are brought up and discussed.

What if your tailgate has a factory lock on there that you need your ignition key to lock/ unlock?? Are these extra locks still necessary or is this thread about if you have no lock whatsoever on the tailgate
