Default tailgate down debris damage?

Any of you that have to travel with the tailgate down due to hauling atv or long loads how much damage do you see from stones or debris being kicked up by the tires? Thanks in advance.

I don't know but imagine it will happen. One thing you could do is what many expensive sports car people do and put a protective clear film on it. with a good job you can't see it. I've done it on a few sportscars, a tailgate should be easy.

I've driven a lot of miles with tailgates down over the last 40 years. I don't recall ever having any damage from the road. My son in law did back into something once in my Tacoma.
