Default Switching to 4.10 gears

I am going from 3.55 to 4.10 rear end gears on my 2002 F150 with a 4.2 with a 5 speed. Need more off the line grunt for towing. My question is what brand of gears should I get. Looking for decent quality with out steep pricing. Budget build. I tend to let out clutch and hit gas vs rev to 5 grand and dump clutch. Ford performance seems to have good pricing.

I haven't regeared any trucks, but a slew of Mustangs have been. All but one used a Ford service kit and gears. One now has 173k miles. Skill of the tech setting up the R&P is also important.

As stated above, get a factory gearset if possible. The aftermarket gears are nearly all manufactured in China or India, and the quality can be all over the road .

Ford Performance is the best hand down. They are the same quality as what you get factory.

I was given a free set it motive gears from a contest, they are crap. I paid for Ford racing performance parts gears to replace them. Go with Ford gears.

I had my rear end regeared to 4.56 about 6 weeks ago. I went with Motive Gears and a Nationa Drivetrain master rebuild kit. I have about 2,000 miles on them (85 mile daily commute) so far with zero issues. I also installed a B&M diff cover to allow for more gear oil capacity. I’m running 35s with a 3.7 v6 but also needed the MPG otherwise I would’ve gone 4.56/4.88. Currently I’m getting 13-14 city and 15-17 freeway. Stock gears were 3.73.

My set of motive gears had origin shift between the gear grind and the center bore of the ring gear. I could get half of the gear to have an ideal contact pattern, but 180 degrees off would be too far in or too far out. I ended up having to set the contact pattern "good enough" to drive the car. The gears have held up just fine for over 60K miles in my mustang, but they have had a whine to them since they were installed. The whine has improved slightly over the years as they wore into each other, but it is still there from 70mph on up.

Just my experience with the motive gears. Some don't have any issues, but others do. It seems to be a crap shoot.

For those of you who have the Ford gears, did you have them installed at the dealer? And how much did it cost you?

You are looking at $1,000-$1,200 (parts and labor) per diff. And I would not go do it at a ford dealership, find a reputable off-road/mechanic shop in you area. I can almost guarantee you'll need to add an additional $300 per diff if you use a Ford Dealership.
