If you cannot get in via that link due to the paywall, Google "Ford bets on fancy pickups".
Discusses how much of Ford's sales is upper price, and competitors too. Avg price hit $44,000 in June.

What's funny to me about this entire thread, is how many people are still "stuck" in the mentality that somehow a pickup truck is different from just about any other car/vehicle on the road - in such a way that pickups are supposed to be less expensive, and only used for hardcore, abusive work.
Wake up people ... in this day and age, pickups have morphed into luxury, work-capable vehicles on the higher end, with offerings at the lower end for "hardcore work only" trucks.
Now, are the "options" over-priced? maybe ... but that's not really the point I'm making here. Some of us want more than a sheet-metal box w/ a powertrain and a bed. I don't drive my truck only on special occassions, or only to go play in the mud or to hunt. I drive my truck EVERY DAY. I use it for EVERYTHING ... from going out on a very nice date w/ my wife, to hauling materials to a jobsite on a project I'm building ... and everything inbetween.
It's amazing to me how versatile these trucks are, and how much use I get out of mine. Nice enough to get into a tuxedo and go to ball, yet utilitarian enough for me to plow through muddy fields at the hunting camp and/or haul construction materials etc. a hundred miles to a jobsite.
I guess all I'm saying is, get over this "trucks are only for work and shouldn't cost jack squat" mentality ... if you only want one with enough stuff in it to make it run, good for you. If you want one with all the bells and whistles, luxurious enough to compete with a high-end Mercedes, Lexus or BMW, they make those too. Pick the one YOU want, and stop acting like everyone else is an idiot for spending more money than you did ...

Taking advantage of people with no sense.
You're taking an XLT truck you can buy for $35,000 and paying nearly 2x that for bling. That's it. People that spend that kind of $$$$ on a light duty pickup just for options, are suckers IMHO.
Right now you can get a 2015 King Ranch S-Crew F250 4x4 diesel for $55K.
Makes ZERO sense to pay more then that for a light duty.

If you want to save big, you more then often need to shop nationwide and not be cornered into your own market. I'm in Chicago, so I search nationwide for deals because cost of living here is very high. I'll gladly drive to save $5,000.
$54,000 for this one.

$71k CAD MSRP for a Lariat here... the '16 will be over $80k for sure!
as for loaded 150 vs base or mid-grade 250, those are 2 completely different trucks for different folks... all about choice!

I don't get the argument that "Oh you could buy a fancy half-ton or you could buy a diesel instead"
Why the hell would I want to have less features, a crappy ride, worse fuel economy, worse to park, cheap plasticky cabin, less cabin space and higher maintenance costs for the same price? Not everyone wants a massive heavy duty truck. If you don't need a heavy duty I don't understand this fascination of getting the biggest, baddest truck you can have for the money at the expense of true luxury features.

I seriously just can't figure out what these folks do for a living, in order to afford these vehicles. Even when I was working as a corporate associate for an AMLAW 100 law firm, there's no way in heck I could afford these trucks. I'm guessing alot are successful entrepreneurs with accumulated $ or guys with at least $200k+ incomes...

Honestly, it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. That kind of money for a pick up??? F that!!! I bought my F-150 from a friend. He has been an ASE certified mechanic working at the same Ford dealer for 28 years. He bought my F-150 brand new and took excellent care of it. He only decided to sell because he had a chance to get a 2014 Raptor. I paid $8k for my truck and it only has 82,000 miles.
Imagine paying $60k for a pick up. Now deduct say $15k for a trade in value or down payment. You are still financing $45k over say 6 years. Christ at 0% interest that's $625.00 a month!!! For a pick up??? Again....F that!
I bought my vacation home in 1997. I paid $52k and put $5k down. My mortgage is $350 a month and now my home is worth $185k. Keep pissing money away on big $ vehicles trying to impress the next guy. Just dumb

I paid 17k for my plain Jane bland AF 06 xlt with 54k miles on it 4yrs ago. I pay $347 a month, that allowed me to turn it it something I like. Still only have about 68k miles on it. Not knocking ppl with money, but I'm good with mine.
