Default Steering wheel shakage?

So my friend calls me today and her car ( 01 Corolla? ) steering wheel as she left her house started "shaking like it's got Parkinson's" direct quote.

So I am going over there in 3 hours when I get off work, only thing I could think of that could cause that possibly is serpentine belt shredding?

Any other ideas? I know she's flat *** broke so mechanic is out of the question and where I am willing to help, hell, Ill even buy the new serpentine belt but nor do I really know what's going on as never had that problem before.

Any thoughts? Stuff to check for when I go over there?

Thanks all

Check the tires they could be out of ballance (sp?) or if she hit a ditch could have mud and stuff stuck in her rim causing it.

I concur...

To test this, rotate the tires front to back and go for a ride. If the shimmy moves to your bum, then YUP, its the tires, most likely a balance issue. (and yes, you WILL feel it in the bum! Kind of a nice break in the day if you ask me )

Yeah, most likely she hit a fat pothole and knocked it out of alignment/lost some balancing weights. Could have even dented the rim a little or something

My moms car did this not to long ago... it was the belts serperating in her front driver side tire...

This may not be the exact case in your friends car.. but it almost a sure bet its in the tires or alignment.. i dont see the serpentine belt causing wheel shake... but i could be wrong..

I concur with everybody that's posted so far... most likely a bad or out of balance tire.

If she's flat broke I suggest a used tire shop - I'm sure they can set her up for less than $20 for a half decent tire
