My wife's Dodge Charger has the option of a digital display in the center. Very easy to glance down and see. It's not hard to see the needle movement. Seems like Ford has the technology, just didn't put the option in. People have preferences and mine would have been digital.

I do it 2 ways : Garmin gps has a very nice digital speed mode even turns a bright red when you exceed posted limit ( I don't know if it changes to any other color but I am trying)
Engineering mode:
Anyway hold the OK button for 5-10 sec / keep holding it and start the truck. after the truck starts / your screen should show engineering mode/
1st test is a gauge test - then everytime you hit ok it steps to a new test or a info screen. everyting from digital tach/speed/temp's etc etc

I had the same thought when I was travelling in the US. I totally expected the truck to have this feature as it's pretty common in modern vehicles. Not a big deal but it would sure beat squinting at the extra small numbers on the speedo.
Interesting, I've never heard of this mode. I'll have to give it a try, thanks.
Also, If you have an OBD interface and Torque or similar app on your smartphone you could use that as your digital speedo. Probably better for occasional use though like when crossing the border.

IF they had an option to show digital speed display in the command center between the tach and the speedo, I'd be ok with that. However, I would NEVER, EVER want to have a digital display over an "analog" needle ... unless the digital display was a simulated analog needle.
I have been in vehicles w/out a needle, and it's horrible. When accelerating, all you basically see is "88" because the numbers are all changing so fast.
All that said, I love the analog needle, and have never wished for a digital display. Like I said, it would be a nice "addition" for those who really want it ... but I couldn't care less about it really.
