Default Somethings wrong with the paint on this brand new F150

I posted a few days ago about how easy I seemed to scratch the side of the truck when I hit it lightly. After tonight, something is definitely not right with this paint.

I just installed a bed extender (which is plastic) there were scratches in the bed everywhere. I’m not talking swirls, but scratches right through the paint.

I was not being careless when I installed this part. I treated the truck like my baby. There are scratches all over like the plastic rubbed through it.

It is a 2018 Shadow Black F150 Platinum built on October 25th. The paint should be cured better than this by now...

I tested a small area by lightly dragging a bolt it in the bed and sure enough it took the paint right off. I can drag a finger nail over it and can feel the paint is gone. It is scary how easy it comes off. I could have put several times the pressure on the paint of my last truck before it did this. What gives here??? It should not be doing this.

Who should I contact to have this looked at?

FYI, this truck is a week old today and has never had anything in the bed...

So its just the inside of the bed thats the issue or is the exterior paint the same way. Im going to go out on a limb and say maybe the inside of the bed isnt prepped or painted the same as the exterior. A spray in bed liner will fix the issue if its just the inside of the bed that is the issue.

The scratch I posted about earlier in the week was on the body, by the door. That one started to raise flags based on how light I hit it. My guess is this is going on everywhere...

It could be my eyes, or it could be the way the pictures come across, but the finish almost seems duller than normal. It doesn't seem to have the same gloss almost as if the clear coat is missing. Highly unlikely I know!

Something was in the bed at some point otherwise scratches and smudging aren't happening, although maybe that wasn't you. I do agree that it seems like it's scratching awful easy.... My 04 without a bedliner isn't that bad and it gets used although I have a mat in it now.

Have them do the tape test and see if the paint comes off, other than that they will just ignore you. The paint Ford is using sucks. It's water based and brittle. Last year about 2 weeks after getting the truck, about this same time last year in fact, I had a plow drive by going the other way spreading salt, and it pinged off the drivers side of my truck and chipped it all over. Thats not the bad part, the bad part is before it warmed up enough to do any touch ups the clear coat peeled off. Ford said, Not Warranted! I have no idea how to repair it without a complete respray of the panels since its Ruby Red.

That is ridiculous man! They have no problem charging a hefty premium for these trucks. They had better stand behind these types of issues. I’ll keep you posted as to what happens. I have a good network who works with Fords paint systems, so reaching out to him to see if this is a real problem for me and for others. I’ll trust his word over anyone from Ford.
