Default Something weird happened...

Last week on my way back from NC, I was going down a hill, Id say maybe a 2-3deg decline. Speed was abut 70mph. As I lightly applied pressure on the brakes, I noticed the trucks rpms shot up to about 3500, but the transmission stayed in 6th gear and the truck slowed down about 10mph or so.
It was almost like I was driving a manual transmission and down shifted. It didn't do this any other time during my trip.
Anyone know what could have caused this? Safety feature of some sort? I didnt press any buttons before, during or after this happened.

Same thing just happened!!
Speed control set @ 70, going down hill coming off a bridge. Rpms shot up to 2500 for a few seconds and then shot up to 3500 until the hill ended.
It appears this is keeping the speed from going higher than what the speed control is set at (engine braking??)
Transmission shifted to 4th, then shifted back to 6 after the hill ended.
Umm, is this normal? Seems like it's a feature built into the trucks computer?

With Cruise control on, yes this is normal. First car I had that did that was a 1995 Plymouth minivan. If you disengage the cruise it will cost in 6th and pickup speed.

I agree with the others. The first time mine did that, it sorta freaked me out. Was thinking I didn't buy a new truck and have troubles with less than thousand miles on it. Just another electronic nanny, over 2 years later, I've learned to live with it, but still not sold on it. I guess I'm just too olde school, and have no appreciation for all this nanny crap, none of it impresses me as far as useability. In other words, I can control my vehicle by myself.

"In other words, I can control my vehicle by myself."
So why use the cruise control?
