Default Should I be worried about this?

Somethings Leaking..

Hi Everyone,

I was doing an oil change the other day and found this when I looked underneath the truck. Should I be worried?.. Is this normal? Am I leaking transmission fluid?

I wanted to see if any of you out there have seen anything similar on your truck.

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

clean it off and see if it comes back, in order for it to be deemed a leak by ford there has to be physical drops of fluid there, a seep/weep is not a warrantable repair

And, they need to see it actually happen.

Look around the floor pan for sling. If you don't see any, or if what you do see is dry, then I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes seals will weep a little before they fully seal up, this could be what you are seeing, then again, it depends on how many miles the truck has on it and how old it is. If not driven a lot and its a year old, then I would clean it off and check it monthly.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep an eye on it. I've got approximately 25,000 miles on the truck. It's about two years old.

Unfortunately, that is only a "weep" and not a real leak. You can use brake cleaner to hose that off. Put some cardboard or newspaper on the ground (if you care to) and hose it with the red straw then let it evaporate. Bingo. Your truck will look restored.

FWIW, I had a 'weep' out of my t-case shaft seal and they replaced the seal under warranty. No drips on the ground, just saw the weeping seal and brought it in. Course, my dealer doesn't suck, so there's that.

I was about to say the same thing about the dealer I use to work at. That would be fixed if it were in that shop. Then again that was 15 years ago and times change.

There's that, and as far as oil/fluid seals go, replacement doesn't get much easier than a trans tailshaft seal.

As the others said, clean and keep an eye on it.
And i would document with dates and mileage by taking pics along the way in the event the dealership gives you a hard time.

From the pic, that 'weep' looks old and dirty with no sign of wetness far as i can tell.
It might of just been the seal initially breaking aka a small piece of dirt between the seal and its mating surface during assembly which eventually cleared itself up.
