Short Antenna
I need a shorter antenna for my 2016 F-150. Any suggestion on what to buy.

Just did this yesterday. Orielly auto parts 17 inch black steel with wire windings for wind noise.
Think it was 18 dallors, total bill was 26 but that included tire chalk and super clean rim cleaner. Made no difference in reception at my location. And now it doesn't hit garage door everyday. Now the stock one is 31 inches and I've found 28 inch ones online that would have been perfect for me. However I saw this one and gave it a try |
Option 1: Take off your stock antenna, chop off however many inches you want, remove the ball from the chopped section, and reglue to the shorter section (note, you may have to do some sanding to get the ball back on.
Option 2: Buy a shorter one like this: Less than $20 and no change to reception. But I do have a little wind noise (very minor) because it doesn't have the spiral wrap to help break the wind. |
I bought a 7" rubber stubby one from O'Reilley for something like $10. I live near houston and still get the channels clear enough, though I don't listen to fm radio.

I put this one on my truck 3 years ago,
Works great, no wind noise, auto wash won't break it due to it's rubber whip like construction and I still pull in radio stations over 60 miles away. . |

I tried a few from amazon. The stubby 4" looked great, no wind noise but had bad reception in my area...Then I went with a 14 (no wire around it) and it had a whistle but reception was better but not perfect....I ended up going back to stock and I plan on cutting it to a shorter size once its a bit warmer out.
