Shipping Tonneau Covers
Hey y'all,
I took some holiday leave and I'm chilling with the folks in the great state of Texas (haha) being that I'm in the lone star state it is A LOT easier to find parts for my truck here than it is in San Diego, CA. I found this nice tonneau ARE cover I the asking price is too good to pass on but since I'm in Texas and the truck is in San Diego, how much will it be to ship it back? I contacted the seller, he bought it about a year ago and does not have the box it came in. If I were to buy it, can I go to fedex, USPS or ups and tell them to ship it to me? Does any of you guys have any experience with this and know about how much it will be? The fiberglass cover will weigh less than 150lbs, so I hope I don't have to send it freight... I'm also not sure if I can ship it without it being in a box or crate of some sort. I highly doubt they will be able to package something that large for me. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and happy holidays!

Check with a moving company. Allied, Atlas, United, Mayflower, etc.

I see. That's what I was fearing. I've done some online quotes here and there but yea it might be too much. Around $800 is what I can find in San Diego for a good used one and that's what it would be with shipping and the cost of the cover. Looks like I'll just let it go for now :/

Someone on here wrote about using Greyhound package express. http://shipgreyhound.com/e/SitePages/gpxStep1.aspx I just did a fake quote of 50 lbs @76in from Fort Worth to San Diego and got a price of $96.00, delivered in 2 days. Still kind of pricey but ....

Grayhound? Hmm, I'd have to check that out as I'm not sure the size of a tonneau would fit under the bus but maybe. Thanks, I'll look into it

I think it's too big for Grey hound but could be wrong. A while ago I had a quote from a moving company to ship a pinball machine from NY to MN for a very reasonable amount. I think they'd be your best bet but it could take some time to get from A to B. It all depends on what they have going on because your item would just be "along for the ride" in a full scale move.
