Ok so I sort of tried what y'all adviced and I was not able to find the problem. Actually I'm not patient enough and w/my work schedule couldnt find the time. I took it to a bigger shop and they adviced me they will look at it, tell me what it is, and will guarantee their work. I told them I wanted the problem fixed so they called me and it turnes out they need to replace the intake manifold (upper & lower) & throttle body. They will also need to change my oil, antifreeze, and thermostat since they are doing all the above. He confirmed that someone had put silicone to cover the hole! Well the previous mechanic I had taken it to stated he had found a gasket all torn up and repaired the problem...I should have known when he didn't charge me! I'll pick up the truck today lets see how it runs.
Once again THANK you all for your advice! This is very helpful!

@ Bottom Dollah: maybe not to be a mechanic as a career but I wish I knew my way better. I work w/about 50 airplane mechanics and about 30 of them are also vehicle mechs but can you believe not one could figure it out or even offer themselves! Their comments are, it's a ford light a match to it! I told them, "No it is because all the mechanics are always fixing Chevy that when they do get a Ford they are lost!" So after that they will not even ask if I'm good w/my truck. Jerks!

i know when the crown victories with the 4.6 had bad intake problems before the revision it was about 600-800 parts and labour, i would suspect similar for the 5.4 if they have to replace intake, unless the get a real nice used one. replacement could be a nightmare if you have no patience or attention to detail. if you have both its pretty straight forward...just time consuming.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I just had someone do it. And my engine light stil came back on! LOL! OH dear LORD! So it's in the shop right now again. This time when I was at a red light and had the heater on the break petal would push back at me??? Told the shop that lets see what the outcome is this time. Good thing his work had a warranty so lets see how long it takes him to figure it out. I'll keep y'all posted!

I was told to clean it by soaking in gasoline over night and it cleaned it. Put it back on next day. But engine light came back on after 2nd start up. So it's been nothing I've assumed. Now I want to know how I can find a valve leak? Any advice anyone please!

the smoke machine is awesome at finding leaks, the pedal pushing back sounds like the brake hose from booster to intake manifold is not connected properly/ that vaccum port is restricted/the engine now has a major vaccum leak causing low low vaccum/ booster check valve is bad. Did they replace intake? how much...just for my curiousity and future reference. thanks

How funny that you mentioned this the best engines because yesterday the Mechanic did call me and stated that he wanted to do that but needed my authorization so I agreed. Today he said after connecting my truck to the Rotunda Smoke Machine the found the leak on EGR Valve that was "repaired" w/silicone as well. He replaced that along w/the EGR just to be on the safe side. As for the the pedal pushing back you were right redseal97 it was the brake hose from booster to intake manifold but it had leak causing low low vaccum/ booster like you stated. Mechanic replaced that aswell.
So total costs since light came up:
Oil Change $20
Tune Up $280 w/o Oil Change
O2 Censors $200
Intake manifold (upper & lower) & throttle body. W/oil change, antifreeze, and thermostat. $450 w/90 day warranty which was used for the smoke machine & EGR.
Thanks to all of you! If it wasn't for all of you I'd feel robbed but reading your posts helped me so much!

So after all this has been "fixed" truck still not running the same. Engine light turned on and still doing same thing w/idle jumping up and down when a/c or heater is on. It sounds as if I'm accelerating it. There is also a noise that sounds like if I need power steering fluid but it is not that. The truck is at a stop and wheel isn't being turned. I took it back and the mechanic said he did not hear or see any of the problems I just listed. And he cleared my engine light. So now I have to wait until the light comes back on to take it back! Does anyone know what this could be?
