Have you taken the Ram for a ride yet? I'm sure I'm being a bit pessimistic, but the last Ram I drove burnt to the ground and that was after the previous one had so many electrical gremlins, that we didn't keep it for more than 8 months. BUT they were older, a '04 and '06. Both Hemi's.

I hear they ride nice and the interior looks good on the surface. It's all about what suits your needs. If you're concerned about reliability, I wouldn't be picking a Ram over a Ford (but that's my personal opinion). I drove a '15 and thought it was OK, but the fit and finish left a lot to be desired and the tranny didn't shift as well as I expected.

You could also check independent sites that list reliability ratings to get a better idea. I have heard nothing but good things with the 2.7. The Ram, not so much...

So maybe I'm just being a pain and should buy the f150. It's not like a 10 speed tranny is that much of a difference

I just went from a tremor (3.5 ecoboost) to a 5.7 crew cab ram (2017). From a performance standpoint, for my needs, there's not much difference. What put me in a ram over a 17 F150 was the ride. There is no comparison.

Really the ride is that much better ? That's interesting I figure the performance of both are more than enough for a truck

I hope it rides better, it's at least a foot longer in the wheelbase.

Before I bought my 17 F150, I was in a rental 2017 Ram through Enterprise Rentals.

It was a Lone Star 4-door crew cab with the 6'4" bed, 5.7 Hemi, and 4x4.

Truthfully...and I hate to say this since I just bought my first Ford...the Ram DEFINITELY rode better than my 2017 supercrew 3.7EB 4x4 6.5' bed F150. Hands down. It's a lie to say it was even close. They hit it out of the park with their coil spring rear suspension.

So, you're probably wondering why in the world I didn't buy one if it rode so nice? Because, though the Ram was the king of roads for comfort, the F150 was more what I wanted and still rode nice. I wanted a newer design and liked the LED headlights, aluminum body parts, and higher tech features of the Ford. Beyond that, the Ford has more backseat legroom, and I have kids that need to be comfy on the weekend trips we take. There were lots of reasons I chose Ford and they may or may not apply to you (so I'm not going to sit here and list everything).

I suggest you check out all the trucks that are of interest to you and test drive them. That's the only way to make the right decision. Figure out how much you are going to spend and drive one of each that are in your budget. Don't just take whatever it is they toss the keys to you, because it will be a hard-loaded model. Look at what your budget will get in each brand. Figure out what features are most important to you.

If you go with Ford, wait for the 2018's so you can see if you like the style/driving comfort/features. At that point you can make an informed decision of the 2018 vs 2017. The 2017's will have better incentives at that point.

Good luck. You are not going to be able to Keyboard Warrior yourself into the right decision. You're gonna have to put boots on the ground and do it right way.

If you haul, the Rams squat more and generally have lower payload.

But if you don't haul or tow that much, I don't think it's a deal breaker. Really, you have to see which one you like better and is within your budget.

Thank you guys for all of your suggestions , what makes it harder to choose is they both will be really priced since both Ford and ram dealers near me have equivalent rebates . I drove the Ford and it was great the interior to me looks nicer guess it's time to now drive the ram

As far as the 17 vs 18 on the 2.7 if you don't mind waiting on rebates and incentives I would hold out for the 18. Simply because of the +25 ft-lbs of torque, 10-speed and the direct and port injection. In regards to the Ram they do ride a lot nicer however my last vehicle was a dodge dakota and it's going to be a while before I trust Dodge/Ram again. Had to replace the front steering components multiple times in the 6 years I owned it and after 100k miles all of the major drivetrain components started failing trans, transfer case etc. (they might have addressed this in recent years but not sure)

With that being said have you considered the 17 3.5 eb? It already has the new motor and 10 speed plus you will be able to take advantage of the rebates/incentives. Just food for thought
