Dealer trade? Don't change tires. Private Party Sale? (almost always the best way to go)...get some better treads on it.

I would say leave the truck as is. Trucks seem to be the most customized vehicles out there and chances are good whoever buys it will change the wheels/tires anyway (though we haven't seen it, so can't say for sure.) I looked for ages online for a used black truck that was stock; not a fan of chrome, or it being raised and really never found it.

A truck is NOT like a house, putting more money into it won't bring a larger return. You might have to knock the price down some, but think of this way, you can decrease it by $800 and not take the chance of spending that $800. Either way you're in the same boat.

As for the warranty, is it transferable? Usually there is a fee associated with doing that. I don't think someone will pay you $1500 for it. Most folks know if they are buying private it's AS IS and they can get their own warranty for $1500. You may want to make sure they pro-rate the way you're thinking they do, I remember having a couple of years and thousands of miles left on an extended warranty and I only got back some few hundred dollars.

Price the truck so that you can negotiate down and still hit a price you are comfortable selling at.

IOW, when they start beating you up on your asking because of tires, you can come down and get somewhere around what you want and the buyer thinks they brought your price down to where they are OK with replacing tires.

Sales is often a mind game. I wish it wasn't, but it is what it is...

Save this as your trump card, they will make you an offer, stay high with what you want and tell them you will through in the warranty for the full ask.

Only replace the tires if it will help you enhance the value and you can recover. Nasty looking tires though, indicate possible abuse to me so as a buyer, I would be leery.

You overpaid for that warranty based on your pro-rated refund, at least as compared to the online dealers selling them. No one is going to pay you $1,500 for it.

Yes, I did overpay as I bought it through the dealer when I bought the truck. I don't think your average person knows that you can go online and buy the Ford warranty for way cheaper than the dealer sells it for. I certainly didn't when I bought it. I paid full price.

My friend, I wish I was selling your truck. I wonder how many people responding to your post actually sell their own vehicles regularly.

I sold my 2010 Lariat, my 2003 Expy, my 1997 Expy, my 2003 E320 Benz, and on and on. I don't remember when I traded in a vehicle, because of all the BS from dealers that you encountered trying to trade in. Trading in is easier, but it costs you money, and I'm talking thousands, not hundreds.

I would print out a big copy of the Ford PremiumCare warranty, and the 1,000+ items it covers, and push the fact that you are offering a longer warranty than the 36/36K new vehicle warranty.

Seriously, who would not be willing to pay appreciably more for a 56k mile truck with 3 1/2 year warranty left on it? The do-it-yourselfers might not care, but everyone else will.

I would get some decent looking used tires on it, detail the crap out of it, (people love shiny things), and if anyone asks if you have any problems with the truck, just say, "If there was anything wrong with the truck, I would have it fixed under warranty".

Good luck with your sale.

Wanted to knock off $350 to paint the inside of the bed even though the truck I was trying to buy had scratches inside the bed. Tried to knock off $150 because they "would have to have a tech spend a couple hours inspecting it" before they could put it on the lot. Basically tried to get me to pay for all of their "cost of doing business" stuff.
I had almost the same experience. They deducted $400 for a malfunctioning power sliding rear window, and they deducted $400 for a detailing fee plus a bunch of other crap. They didn't have a single used F250 on the lot so they wanted it. I walked after those BS games.

Take all of the accessories off that are worth something to sell on the side such as lights, WeatherTechs, etc. As long as there are floor mats, no one can complain.

The average consumer knows squat about tires so I say just leave them on. Stop making this more of a chore than it already is

Here's my 2Cents...my 2010 had 68k miles, I kept good care of it. New seat covers a week after I bought it new, new husky floor mats again a week after new. And when I started new truck shopping in June of 2015...I called the body shop and scheduled a $250. detail job 'and' went to Feebay and bought four of the cheapest New tires available , 17" it was like $380. with the shipping. THEN I went truck shopping. After 6 weeks of looking and kicking tires. A dealer called. He said we were allowing you $18.k trade. Your truck is in really really good shape. We'll have no issues selling it. Were going to give you $21.k and your puny little payment you want. I'll be there tomorrow I said.
So for me. Was the $600. bucks worth it ? It was in my mind it certainly was.
