Default self test

how do i (or where can i find out how to) retrieve trouble codes without a scan tool. the truck is a 97 f150 4x4 4.6l.

You should be able to "jump" the top right pole and the one to the direct left of it. But if i were you i would just go to autozone and have them check it for free.

we dont have an autozone around here. we have kragen and napa do you know if either of them do it for free?

never heard of kragen but napa should do it.

probably why you never heard of it is because they go by different names in different parts of the country. they are also known as checker or shucks

You can't check a '97 without a scan tool.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

yeah i just decided to take it to our friend who owns his own repair shop. there were no codes so im almost 100% sure that the gem module is bad. i found one at a salvage yard and he said the he will sell it to me for $75 with a guarentee. hopefully i can install it myself and only be out the $110 for the module and scan test
