Seaping (dripping) pinion ring. 2013 F150 3,300 miles
Just curious, I have a 2013 F150 limited slip rear with only 3,300 miles on it. Just notices that the rear differential at the driveshaft connection is damp and is very slightly dripping. That is the location of the pinion seal.
Has anyone else noticed that their front half of their differential was damp? Just had a dealership oil change so I figure at my current rate of milage at Christmas time I should be up to 6,000 miles and then the truck will be 9 months old so I will get another oil change and mention it then. Still would be under full warranty.
Just wondering if anyone noticed it too.

There was a similar posting around May of this year. I'm not smart enough to tell you how to look back on the old posts to view it. Maybe a keyword search?
I know it's an inconvenience, but I'd take it back to a dealer and at least establish a timeline of when you first saw the issue just in case it gets worse. Unless it's dripping on the driveway don't worry about it causing damage. However I wouldn't wait until December to get it documented. Good luck!

there is an updated seal for the rear differentials. I don't believe it is a tsb yet, but there is definitely an upgrade/updated seal. you will still be under warranty but I would just go in and let the local dealership do it. Where I would get worried is if they have an inexperienced guy do it and over tighten the pinion nut for the backlash of the gears, and crush the collapsible sleeve on the pinion itself. either way you have lots of warranty left so use it!
When I get a chance on Monday ill look it up through inFord and let you know if there is a tsb and the number of it.

Thank for the help you guys. Just freaking aggravating. Thought it was just a fluke at first so I clean it with break fluid and only after 300 miles it was damp again and looked like this. It's not bad but just aggravating. Already had to have the driver side power window regulator replaced under warranty and get this. When I bought the truck it didn't have a brake controller. So at the sale I had them install one. Told them (service) YOU MUST FLASH THE COMPUTER, so it recognizes it. Of course the service tech didn't. I had to take it back for that. Then 1 week after delivery, from the dealer I ordered and had them install the factory funning boards. So stupid *** service tech installed the super cab running boards on my CREW CAB! Of course it's at the end of the day, so I had to go back for that too.
So far this is the 3rd thing wrong in the first 3,300 miles. Just VENTING a bit. Paid cash for it and starting to regret it. This is my 4th Ford pickup and I don't know...................
But thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate it.

SO - so far most of your beef is with the dealership and not the truck itself. Seals can go in 2000 miles or last 200,000 miles. In the pictures you show the seal looks pretty dry to me. If it continues to leak then go get it repaired, its not a big deal or a serious issue.

Looks like that because I cleaned it with brake fluid to see how much actually is seaping or dripping. Just two small drips of the driveway after I cleaned it and drove 50 miles or so and it sat over night. It's also pretty clean because the truck only has 3300 miles on it and is only a few months old. I know its not a serious fatal problem, but still a problem that shouldn't occur in the first few months ownership.

Also it is clean cause I'm one of those guys who even wash and wax everything in the engine compartment 2 a year by hand and wax everything by hand. Any little leak, seap or scratch I notice. Just got rid of my 10 year old and the body and engine compartment was spotless, my motorcycle is the same. Maybe **** retentive and a bit OCD, but still it dripped.

I had a light sweat on my steering box. The dealership warned me i writing to replace the entire unit or else they would not be responsible for what would ultimately befall me. I watched it for three more years afterward and traded it in. To them.
Their comment on the trade: 'We've never seen a cleaner return'.

Jeff, of the four things mentioned, three are dealer problems. I don't think it's fair to attribute everything to the truck. I would rather things like this show up under warranty instead of after.
