Default Rusting running boards

I have 2013 red FX4 and I noticed yesterday that I have some bubble rust starting to appear on the passenger side running board and then on the driver side there appears to be some surface rust right around the plastic end caps. Does anyone else have this issue and does ford fix these issues under the warranty?

I kind of have the same thing except mine haven't bubbled yet, just several brown markings on the pass side RB near the front. These things shouldn't develop that quickly. I bought my 2011 Ford certified used...previous owner in Michigan. I am hoping the winter conditions / salt don't eat these trucks up.

I had the same issue. I took them off one day and started to fix them (got rid of rust, filled with bondo and coated with primer) and they have been sitting in the garage for 6 months now because I like the truck a lot more without them.

Hi Red RacerFX4 and Heel70,

Have your dealership check out the running boards; it's best to get concerns like this documented early on. If a repair needs to be made, they'll be in the best position to let you know if it can be done under warranty. Let me know if you need any of my assistance; I'll hang around this thread just in case.

Crystal

Default update

Just to give an update on this issue. Went to the dealer and finally got an appointment. The service guy tells me that they have to get pictures and send them to ford for approval and to see if they are covered under the warrant to replace them. I'm now curious as to why the dealer has to have permission from the manufacturer to cover a warranty issue. I have never heard of this, but we shall see.

Similar issue with my SHO. The chrome came off of the tail light trim. The dealer had to send pictures to get approval.
Ford approved and the trim was replaced.
Just some second guessing by Ford and an extra trip to the dealer by me.

Thanks for the update, simple question, are the boards painted boards or are they chrome boards?

Just curious.
Thanks

Default today's update

So I got the truck back today. Dealer had to order a new running board. Ford denied replacing both for some reason (gotta call customer service to find out why). But anyway the boards are that flat matte black color.

This is why I have always put on stainless steel running boards on my stuff since my first set in 1988. Stainless steel strong, nice chrome look, and holds up longer than the vehicle. My son still has the last full size Bronco I bought in 1991, and the stainless running boards look almost as good as they did the day I put them on in Alaska.

This is how all factory warranties work. Ford is the manufacturer. If it's a manufacturer defect, Ford has to prove that it is that. If they blindly let every dealership approve of every single warranty claim that comes though the door, Ford would be bleeding money on a massive scale. I would think every dealer would approve of any claim, if Ford was going to foot the bill without any kind of approval.
