Default Rust on 2018...What the actual (Bad Word)

Ok guys, I know a little bit of rust on the drive shaft coupling is normal, but check out the surface rust on the upper control arms!

This can't be normal, and yes the lift and parts are from Rough Country and they were put on and vouched for by the parts department at the dealership.

My question is this; is it normal? And if it is, what can I do / put on it to make sure it doesn't get worse through the winter??? FYI, no salt on the roads yet here... had the truck less than 3 months...

Normal. If it bothers you, hit it with a wire brush and some por 15.

Salt is not a requirement for rust. Only moisture. Bare metal can surface rust overnight on a humid day

In my experience, it’s normal. I assume you’re talking about the rust on the drop steering knuckle, that raw steel gets rusty super quick. It’s just surface rust, so i’d reccomend scuffing it up with some scotch brite and giving it a couple coats of rattle can black.

That's the spindle, not the control arm.

Looks to me like they machined the top and left it bare to ensure proper fitment at the balljoint. Not unusual at all. Bare metal will rust like that overnight.

Apologies for incorrect vernacular, growing up we always referred to the control arm assembly as all encompassing. Thanks for all the corrections....

I've read up on the POR 15. If i can get that surface rust off and apply that I should be able to prevent it or is it inevitable? I've never seen rust set in like this as quick as it has on a NEW vehicle. I live in pretty dry Boise, ID which is considered upper desert...

Working in auto body for 20 years. I've seen this on every new vehicle to some degree

While this is true, we want it perfect..BUT no vehicle is perfect. well mass produced vehicle anyway. You can look at almost any make and model and find a few things wrong. minor or major

if vehicles were perfect there would be no need for a warranty
