Remote Access Install Charge Reasonable?
#12
Wow, my **** hurts from just looking at that invoice.
I don't care how nice a "Remote Access System" is (not sure what it even really does other than start the car) but I'd settle for a one way remote start system a before I'd have to scream like a raped ape over that bill.
I installed my remote starter myself for a total cost of $200. It's fancy enough for me.
Post how this works out for you and what the dealer says.

I installed this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_220CA51...ca-5154&tp=149
and this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_220FLCA...FLCAN&skipvs=T
When bought together, they reduce the FLCAN price by 50%, I may have misspoke. Looks like $220, not $200. They also provide technical support (which was great) and a lifetime limited warranty.
There's added value as well in that Crutchfield flashes the FLCAN for you as well as provides you the color codes and in most cases the connector color and pin number.
I did the install over the course of a day, as I am very **** about wiring and such. I didn't cut any wires and I soldered all connections using a parallel method I worked out years ago. I also loom all wires and wire tie all harness in place. I also document what I do for later reference. I plan on doing a write up soon.
Ford has not had to do anything for this to work.
I will admit this, I would have been willing to pay up to $400 for a true plug and play system, but at thata price there are many third party installers who can do it and warranty the work and all I have to do is wait a few hours for them to do it..

Hey there, sorry for the late late follow-up on this. I spoke to the dealer and they:
#1 - Discovered they overcharged me for the parts (I think they knocked off about $70)
#2 - Knocked an hour off the installation (charged 3 hrs in the end)
Overall I am pretty happy. Next time I will definitely get a quote before having any work performed, but I can swallow the price I paid for a good lesson learnt + knowing I was going to be paying "dealer" prices.
As far as the system is concerned, I love it!!!
Thanks everyone for the good feedback, really appreciate it!
