Default Reference guide to parts interchangeability

I have searched for a reference to parts interchangeability and can't find one.
Specifically looking to find what trans fits on a 94 I6. Would also like see what other parts will work in drive train and also in the cab, if possible.
Can any one point me in the right direction?

Going to purchase an '94 F150 supercab stepside that has a blown trans.
I'm a junkyard loving fool and need some info.

What I need to know is, will a standard trans, say from a 2002 5.0, bolt up to the '94 300 I6? Or from a '98 4.2?
Or maybe a tranny from a newer F250?
Don't really know what the junkyard has, but would like find a tranny with under 100K miles..

Thanks,
Snookered

the ZF trans will bolt up to the 4.9L but I think you need the bigger clutch/flywheel.

Many parts will interchange from '80-'96. Of course there will be some differences in design. 4.9, 5.0, and 5.8 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern so anything from those will fit yours. Any good junkyard can give you the interchange information when you're looking for parts.

Thanks, 94'snap and Sean. I'll be going to Pull-A-Part, not sure if they would know these things. They sell 5 speed manuals for under $70 with 30 day warranty. Pretty damn good deal if you ask me. (pullapart.com)

I went on half price day and got my 5 speed for $40. My truck originally had a 4 speed so everything I needed to do the swap cost under $100. They had everything on the computer, so even though it's u-pull they should still have the interchange.

Got one more for you, Sean.

Do you know of an automatic (4 speed, maybe), that is not computer controlled, that will fit the 300 I6? It would be nice upgrade, if possible. Could get the computer and wiring, It's the sweat and cussing while installing that would be good to avoid.

EDIT:
I just realized you already answered that with the bellhousing bolt pattern response.
I'll try paying a little closer attention next time.

I'd go with the AOD since it's the 4 speed automatic non-computer controlled.

Thanks, Sean. I'll see what can be found at the bone yard.
