Default Rear Window Defroster Problems

2010 Scab w/less than 25,000 miles.

Bought the Ford ESP warranty a year ago when the factory warranty ran out.

Anyhoo, the rear defroster stopped working about a month ago (right after taking Chester in for a 2nd high brake light leak).

The dealer informed me that the fault was in the rear window glass itself, therefore the ESP WOULD NOT cover the repair, somewhere @ $800.

Called Ford ESP this morning and was told if the window isn't damaged, but the rear defroster didn't operate because the electrical grid inside the window was at fault, then YES, Ford's ESP should cover the repair.

Called the dealer this am and the first thing out of the guy's mouth was "We decided we would cover half the cost for you, so your part of the bill will be @ $400".

I informed him about my conversation with Ford ESP and indeed the repair was covered by the ESP.

Then I got, "That's contrary to everything we discussed w/Ford after you left the premises yesterday". "We were told that the repair would not be covered because the ESP does not cover any glass on the vehicle".

So, I gave him the 'reference #' given to me by the ESP, and he is supposed to touch bases w/them and call me later today.

I'm beginning to think Ford is gonna have a real problem getting me to buy another Ford vehicle.

Less than 25,000 miles and Chester has been in the shop for repairs no less than 8 times.

I've never, ever had a rear window defroster on a vehicle just give up the ghost like my F-150 has and the fact I was sold the ESP does no good in my situation.

The dealer is seeing it as a window issue not a rear defroster issue. The repair required is not because of the glass but the defroster that is attached to it. Keep up the fight you'll win.

First, and foremost......where the heck have you been. I thought you might have been scooped up by Zombie's or something. Anyway, glad your still around. Sounds like the dealer is trying to give you the old high hard one. Hell, I owned an '86 Ford that the rear defroster went out and the ESP took care of it with no problem. If possible I would tell the jackleg he's full of chit, and take it to another dealer. I have found that Ford responds to the situation depending on how it's described to them. That's verified in this situation. Your service writer is to stupid to explain to Ford it's the defroster, not the glass.
