I haven’t heard any complaints about the 2.7. Is there a definite difference in acceleration with the 3.5 over the 2.7? Any other advantage with the 3.5 other than towing?
The 2.7 may feel stronger at the bottom due to a smaller turbo spooling faster but the 3.5 is a faster engine overall.Id go with the 3.5

btw, you're getting 50 more hp and 70ft-lbs more torque, but you're also getting more displacement, which for towing, means it doesn't have to work as hard towing the same load as the 2.7.
All turbos have lag. Its a fact. You may not be able to feel it but boost does not happen until you make enough exhaust gas to spin the turbo to a speed to make boost. This is a fact. You may not feel it but there are times when a turbo motor can be caught off boost and will produce lag.

I know all about lag and boost. I built a 500whp turbocharged 2.3L 4banger. That was lag...full boost just after 4000rpm. That's when you have to plan your shifts.

The ecoboost motors in stock form are imperceptible. There's more throttle/transmission lag than turbo lag.

i agree Ford has done a great job with lag in the eb motors. We had a 14 2.0 eb escape and it was almost inpreceivable but it was there. My wife has a new crv with a 1.5 turbo motor and its there too. Bearly felt but still there

Just got my new issue of MotorTrend, and they tested all of the '18 Ford trucks. The 5.0 Coyote was the overall fastest truck in the test, and in the 1/4 mile race it tied with the Raptor which has the 510 lb/ft version of the 3.5L EgoBoost engine.

My point is, do not underestimate the 5.0. It's the king. And it's rock solid dependable.

As far as axle ratio, the beauty of the 10-speed auto is that the overdrive gears are so tall you can get excellent highway MPGs with any axle ratio. So, if you go 3.73 you get more power at slower speeds, better towing, and still maintain great cruising MPGs.

Ford is finally unleashing the real power of the 5.0

I appreciate all of the responses. I want to gather as much info before purchasing/ordering this truck so I make the correct choices.

Jump on YouTube, check out 'The Fast Lane Truck' and their video reviews. They really did seem to like the more rock-n-roll feel of the 2.7 over the ecoboost. with the changes for this year, expect new vids to come out over the winter.

The 2.7 IS an Ecoboost
