Ranger to F-150
Last week I decided my 08 Ranger 4X4 is just getting to small. Either it's shrinking or I'm getting bigger. I test drove 2 F-150 4X4's today. One with the 3.5 Eco and 10 speed transmission, the other with the 5.0 and 6-speed. I can see what all the debate is about. The 3.5 shoots the truck out of a cannon (Compared to my 4.0 Ranger, anyway). The 5.0 is just a bit slower, but man, the SOUND!!! So sweet compared with the eco boost. It will be interesting to see how the 5.0 performs once it's married up to the 10 speed.
The exact truck I want can't be found anywhere in Canada, and Ford is no longer taking orders for 2017 custom builds, so I have no choice but to wait a bit and get the 2018 if I want it configured exactly how I want. This could be the last new vehicle I ever buy, and I want what I want so I'd rather wait a bit than compromise. Awesome trucks. I can't wait!

So are you going with the EcoBoost or Coyote?
For 2018, the Coyote gets updates for more power, but also gains direct injection which sucks. At least they are combining that with port injection, so hopefully the valves will stay cleaner and the engine will perform well for over 100,000 miles.
The EcoBoost was already updated from the ground up, so in theory it shouldn't have any of the issues the first generation was plagued with.
Either choice will be fun. Just imagine if they put those twin turbos on the Coyote engine. Whoa!!

That's going to be a tough decision. Last night I was convinced that the 8 was for me. I don't tow much, so don't need the EcoBoost torque. But I like the way the EcoBoost performs for sure. I'm hoping to hear some reviews of the Coyote and the 10 speed transmission soon. And yeah, a turbocharged V8 would be pretty potent!

You know, after driving 3 Rangers, then a Frontier, and finally moving to my F150, I often miss the smaller size. The F150 sure gives my family more room, but we all went fishing in the river bottoms Sunday and the truck wouldn't fit through the last bit of trails so we had to park and walk. I used to be able to drive right up to the bank!
Hearing the sticker bushes scratch against the sides was painful to hear as well, I used to be able to avoid those in the smaller trucks!

...and that's why I'm keeping my son's 91 Jeep Cherokee. He's going to sell it to me. We've lifted it a bit, and it's the perfect vehicle for getting to the fishing holes. The damn thing goes anywhere, and a few more scratches and dents don't matter a bit. No way am I going to take my new beauty queen into the trails!

I had been driving Ford Rangers for many years, one of my favorite vehicles. I had a 2000 XLT, 2003 Edge, 2011 Sport and 2003 XLT. The 03 started as a project vehicle, ie I added Powerdom hood, Edge painted valence, fogs, and grill, OEM Fender Flares ect. After all that work and a crap ton of $ I happened across a 2014 Ruby Red Tremor for sale online with 10k miles (love that truck when I first came out but to expensive) so I ended up selling the 03 and the Tremor is my daily.
There is no comparison to the Ranger, insane power, gas mileage is similar depending how its driven, ride is much better, quieter and lots of room. The only downside is some in town driving where the Ranger was much easier to move around parking lots ect and better suited.
The F150 3.5Eco isn't the best for short trips and stop n go as it has a much higher effect on gas mileage and its best to keep the air flowing in these and drive at operating temp.
Regardless, the Tremor is an awesome Truck and outside of the payment, I don't regret making the switch. The other downside to the F150 is its like an AR-15, so many was to customize and mod so count on that $

No longer stuck in 2003
This is why I bought a beat up used f150 to replace my beat up used Ranger. I do miss the ranger but the more work I put into the f150 the better it runs. Hoping to get it ready to do some light trails around my area in the near future.
