Premium Connectivity
Hello Ford F-150 Forum. I've always wanted to buy a truck and finally saved enough to buy a Lariat Super Crew. However, the truck comes with so many gadgets, it's overwhelming. Evidently I received "Premium Connectivity" for the first 12 months and now Ford wants me to buy it. All I want is for my phone to connect to the truck so I can play music and take calls. I would also like to be able to respond to text messages using my voice. From the Premium Connectivity Package information it's hard to tell if I will lose any of that functionality if I do not renew. I don't use (or need) their streaming music, news, audiobooks, podcasts, games or videos. I get all of that via other services on my phone. It does list "voice activated assistance" as a feature.
To net it out, does anyone know if I will need to subscribe to the Premium Connectivity Package if all I need is access to CarPlay, the ability to take phone calls and the ability to reply to text messages using voice?

AI knows so much these days. After reading the following, I gather that if all you want is for your phone to connect to your truck so you can play music and take calls, you do NOT need the premium connectivity package. That's the abridged version of the following:
--------------
Ford Premium Connectivity is a subscription service that enhances the connectivity features of compatible Ford vehicles. It provides access to streaming services, navigation, and other connected features through the vehicle's built-in modem. This allows for seamless streaming of audio and video, access to navigation, and the use of voice assistants without relying solely on a smartphone.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Key Features:
Streaming Services:
.
Access to music, podcasts, audiobooks, and video streaming services like Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, Pandora, Max, Prime Video, and Peacock.
Navigation:
.
Integrated navigation using Google Maps or connected navigation, depending on the vehicle and subscription.
Voice Assistants:
.
Integration with Alexa Built-in and Google Assistant for voice commands related to connected features.
Wi-Fi Hotspot:
.
Enables a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices within a 50-foot radius, though this is also available as part of the larger Ford Connectivity Package.
Games and Productivity:
.
Download and play games while parked, and potentially access video and audio conferencing features.
Subscription and Cost:
The Ford Premium Connectivity package is typically offered as a one-year trial, which is activated by adding a credit card and agreeing to the terms and conditions.
After the trial, you can subscribe to a paid plan, with options for monthly or yearly subscriptions.
Some features, like navigation, may be available as separate add-ons to the subscription.
The cost can vary, but it's often around $10 per month, with navigation potentially costing an additional $80 per year.
How it Differs from Phone-Based Connectivity:
Ford Premium Connectivity utilizes the vehicle's built-in modem and data plan, rather than relying on your smartphone's data or hotspot.
This can provide a more stable and seamless experience for streaming and other connected features, as it avoids potential issues with smartphone signal strength or compatibility.
It also allows you to access features like navigation and streaming without needing to connect your phone via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
----------------
The key here is "without needing to connect your phone." ... You already stated all you wanted to do was connect your phone. You don't need a subscription package from Ford to do that. "...utilized the vehicle's built-in modem and data plan, rather than relying on your smartphone's data or hotspot." That should tell you everything you need to know.
