Default Powder Coat Black Chrome

Just purchased a 2012 XLT Super Crew. Unfortunately I got it with the chrome package. I'm thinking about getting all of the current chrome powder coated black chrome (nerf bars, bumpers, grill, door handles and emblems).

Has anyone here done this? If so, do you have pics?

Yea or nay

I like the idea as I have the chrome package as well and dont care for it. Every painter and powdercoat place I've talked to wont do it though and said it's a bad idea as it wont stick to chrome even prepped.

I have been looking at getting a chrome 2 piece fuel door for my truck and either having it powder coated or plasti dipped (since they don't make a black one for my truck). The powder coater I talked to didn't think it would be that big of a deal.

I think that it would probably be a better idea to swap out all the chrome parts with aftermarket/OEM black parts. Like Franchi said it might not be able to stick to the chrome well enough so I don't think it's worth the hassle of painting them if it might just go to waste. Take off all your chrome parts and sell them locally or on here. Then buy your black parts that you desire.

Would be cool but those parts aren't metal. You'd have to strip the chrome off the bumpers first anyway.

House of Kolor makes an adhesion promoter formulated to bond to chrome. PPG makes a sealer primer that is formulated to bond to chrome. If you're dealing with people that say it cant be done, and you shouldnt give them your business anyways. I had the bumpers on my 05 f150 paint over chrome for 3 years and it held up as well as the rest of the truck. If youre really worried about it, paint your bumpers and spend another 100$ a piece to get them covered in clear bra
