I agree that is a bad design by Ford. You do not have to leave anything outside long before some kind of crit will want to find a hole to crawl into. Especially if you live in the country like me. NYC boys might not have to worry about crits so much, but out here, one must always be aware of various kinds of crits...

I had that happen to a 2006 ford ranger. One day I was cleaning the engine compartment and found a straw like substance. Upon further investigation I found an entire birds nest in my fender! Shop vac took care of it lol

I have a warm garage but it is full of guns and ammo and there is no room. I push as much as I can aside so the wife's car fits in the garage if a bad storm with hail is coming. Since the truck is a company truck, she doesen't care if it gets dented even though it costs the same maybe a little more than her car.

We do live out in the sticks but have never had anything like this happen until the wife relocated my cat and now there is birds everywhere, rampant bunnies and skunks. Thank goodness for night vision and silencers as we can bag a lot of critters but the birds are elusive as the sit on either the vehicles or power lines which I do not want to put holes in. I would like to put some seed on a box of tannerite and ......

I figured it was investation as they are depositing as much as possible!

No more chirping as I think the momma bird gave up on them. Now there is a bad smell when I hit the AC on and it isn't funny anymore I am taking it to Ford so they can fix the loose wheelwell in the other side but hope the can drop the stinky side to clear it out.

Has anyone tried to plug these holes before and if so how?

doubt there is any aftermarket solution for that problem, you will probably have to fab something up custom to cover the hole. Fiberglass or plastic work maybe?

Emailed pics to my Ford dealer and they are trying to say the "holes" are for cooling and part of the system. Even though my salesman said it is a bad design the issue would not be covered under warranty but he could possibly take care of it for me while I take it to the for another issue. I took the hour drive over there and the service manager had no clue why I was there, the service techs all just took lunch as well as my sales guy. I could leave the truck with them and they could look at it or wait for an hour or so until everyone came back. Since the truck was loaded with guns and ammo for the gunshow, by law I just can't leave it somewhere and I didn't have the time to wait for hours and was getting frustrated since I drove all that way. The service manager stepped up and actually said " I will do it for you". He removed most of the attachments and started pulling out the nest and it ended up being the size of a basketball with the dead stinking birds! We blew it out with the air nozzle and put it back together. I figured nice, it is done with but then he said pay the guy up front. I was under the impression there would be not charge but for $50, it was worth it. I should have kept the nest and birds and put them into my salesman's desk for all the runaround.

I think hideing the nest in the salesman's desk would have been fair.
Looked at my truck and found the holes. Now I can't sleep. I've got to come up with some plug or screen than looks right.
