Default please help. noise coming from under truck

my 05 FX4 f-150 is making a weird noise that I have never heard before. it only happens in 2 wheel drive. it sounds like a chattering metal sound. kind of like a chhh chhh sound and only happens when im acelerating. its almost like dragging a stick on the ground noise. as soon as i turn 4by on it goes away. or when i let off the gas it goes away. my hubs are good and this truck is clean underneath. my u-joints are fine the only thing i can think of is something in the front end but it doesnt affect my driving at all. any ideas?

I would speculate it's your u-joints, but you say they are OK.

I was wondering how you came to that conclusion?

If you firmly grip the drive shaft and wiggle it around, if there is any play at all, I'd say one or more u-joints are going bad.

If you have a split drive shaft, I'd be suspect of the carrier bearing, also.

Hard to diagnose probs on the net without personally inspecting it.
