Platinum or upgraded Lariat?

Platinum or upgraded Lariat?
Hi,
which should i buy? I’m looking at a Platinum or Lariat. Used for driving to Lake Tahoe from Bay Area couple times a month, plus regular city driving, , maybe towing a trailer 3-4 times a year for camping trips.
I like the the interior of the Platinum, but I’m not a huge fan of the PLATINUM on the tail gate.
Is the the upgraded version of the Lariat interior just as nice?
any ideas / recommendations much appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Welcome! You can always paint the tailgate like some have done. If you just have money to burn, buy the Plat otherwise the Lariat will suffice in my opinion.

No the interior of the Lariat is no where near as nice as the Platinum. That is in essence what you are spending the extra on. The leather in the Lariat is hard and plasticky compared to the Platinum leather, it is soft and supple and feels good to the touch. They are also multicontour and have massaging seat and back, with motion and vibration. As for payload they are identical to the lariat. The tailgate can be wrapped, if you search the 15+ thread there are a couple pictures of the wrapped tailgate which looks great. I may have it done when I get mine, and since it will be Magma Red, I will have it wrapped in gloss black, and maybe accent the letters in a dark red.
The cost difference between the two is not very much, but you do get better incentives on the Lariat. I have a Lariat 502a and like the options, but a Platinum 701a has all options included in one, only the moonroof is separate. I did a build and price and the difference between is well worth the better interior.

When I was looking at used trucks I avoided the Platinum trim for the same reason. Why does Ford ruin a nice truck with that cheesy looking tailgate?
I am pretty sure the leather in the Platinum is nicer. It's up to you if the price and tailgate is worth it though for a Platinum, a Lariat is still a pretty nice truck. Although I think Ford ruins the interior of the Lariats with the fake wood grain, to me that's as bad as the huge "PLATINUM" badge on the rear.

When I ordered my '11 Lariat, I went with a Lariat over a Platinum or Limited. I wanted two-tone paint, and I don't think that was available for either. The interior didn't appeal to me so much in the King Ranch so I didn't go for it. Got all I wanted with my Lariat.

I bought a loaded up Lariat because I didnt like all the chrome and tailgate of the Platinum or Limited. I bought a Special Edition with a couple other packages on it. No chrome on the truck. I dont like the King Ranch interior or logos either.

I suggest you take a test drive of both and see which one you like best. I did and ended up with a loaded Lariat and love it.
This will not answer YOUR question. It's up to you, what you like. If money is not an issue, Platinum. You can always repaint or swap the tailgate.
