Plastidip instead of taping off
Basically I want to try and paint the insides of my side badges to color match the truck without removing them.. If I plastidipped the whole thing and then removed the dip from the f 150 letters, I'm going to use the color match chip paint to brush in the letters . If I hit the plastidip on the sides I could just peel the outline off . Hypothetically it should work , anyone ever done it this way?

I was actually contemplating doing the same thing. It sounds like it would work just fine to me.

A roll of the 3M tape is like $7. I would pull them and separate the 2 pieces and spray with color match paint from Napa or Duplicolor.

Not sure how cleanly the plastidip will peel where you want it to peel. I would suggest having a hobby knife on hand if you go this route. Also, nothing stopping you from painting right on top of the dip.
Personally, I'd go with the divide and conquer strategy. I wonder... if the badges split apart is it possible to disassemble it while it's still on the truck? Not sure what the backside looks like or which piece the tape is mounted to. |
Between all the masking, and the awkwardness of painting them on the fender, seems to me that it would just be a lot easier to take them off and apart.

You're probably right. Just curious
