Passenger Air Bag Dash icons - what does the far right one indicate?
I noticed the far right 'passenger airbag' icon was illuminated but also had an amber circle/slash 'NO' symbol over the top of the icon. This is the indicator immediately to the right of the 'ON' light which illuminates when a passenger sits in the front passenger seat.
I am not sure I noticed this additional 'dash light' illuminated before - - - I thought just the 'ON' light would illuminate indicating my wife was sitting in the passenger seat and the system was engaged. Is the illuminated icon to the right of the Pass On light supposed to be illuminated as well with a passenger in the seat? I looked all through the manual and could not find a good description of all of those lights and what was normally illuminated during different scenarios. Now that I am posting the photo I snapped, and look at it enlarged... it appears to be an icon of a 'child seat' with a no-symbol over it.... is this a default light to warn against putting a child in the front seat?? Makes sense. Thanks for your help. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...85a04e9ec1.jpg |
yes, that means no rear facing child seat. They are not pretty when a bag fires and they are there

Ok thanks! I know Michigan law forbids a front child seat, so I am aware of this. I think if you have a single cab truck, they would allow you to have an infant seat in the center seating position, if I am not mistaken.....
Such a tiny little icon which is hard to make out unless you get an inch away from it..... but I guess the lawyers have to cover Ford's behinds - - which I totally get. Thanks for the confirmation! Have a great day. Holy Crap! I just watched the video.... that is wicked. |

I would not trust that either where a small baby/child is concerned!

they say that the OCS can sense a child seat and turn the airbag off, I would not trust that

Not sure about Michigan, but in NC, it's only against the law to have a rear facing car seat to be in front of an active airbag. They can ride in the front seat if there is there is no airbag, or if it disabled.
I think it's just a weight sensor. Over xx lbs in the seat and the airbag is supposed to be on. Under that and it should be off. I don't remember if there is a minimum threshold or not, or if default (no passenger) is no or off. I wouldn't trust it with a child either. My 02 Ranger had a manual override switch that used the ignition key to turn it on/off. I would have trusted that. |
Thank you guys! Wealth of knowledge in this forum to tap into.... very much appreciated.
